Welcome to NYC
It has been exactly 12 days since I arrived in New York from Seattle. These are some of the initial things I’ve noticed.
1. Guys actually buy you cocktails when you’re out and about (and get you a town car for a safe ride home at 4am)
2. The skinny jean trend is far more utilitarian then I realized. Example: It’s a rainy nasty day and the streets are flowing with dirty water and refuse. First of all - wear boots. Second of all - if your pants are not tucked in, they will get soaked. Skinny jeans that tuck into boots = problem solved. (I’m buying a pair pronto).
3 . There is no real recycling - which gives me extreme anxiety every time I try to dispose of a can or bottle. My sister says it’s because the mob owns the sanitation department, and trying to green the mob is a noble idea.
4. There are still starbucks on every corner, but on the other there is a dunkin donuts.
5. I assume the container store started in New York, because even the wealthiest of peeps have to consolidate a lot of stuff into very small spaces.
6. Everyday I’m on a film set
